During the summer months, mid May to mid September, the Whale Shark is a welcome visitor to the waters surrounding Cancun Mexico and provides a fantastic opportunity to be at one with nature as you swim and snorkle alongside these majestic underwater giants.
The Whale Shark (Rhincodon typus) is the largest fish in the ocean measuring up to 40 feet in length with the largest individuals weighing over 75,000 lbs. Despite its name and size the Whale Shark is not a Whale at all, it is a filter feeding shark which consumes algae and plankton. In fact, it is the migrating plankton it feeds upon that brings this magnificent creature to the beautiful blue waters of the Mexican Caribbean.

In the Yucatan Peninsula area of Mexico, Whale Sharks gather off the coast of Isla Mujeres, Isla Contoy and Isla Holbox and provide an excellent day trip diversion for those vacationing in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

The boats that take you to see the Whale Sharks are small crafts with a holding capacity of around 10 people plus the crew, and the numbers of boats are strictly controlled by licence. It’s generally an early start (7am) returning early afternoon (2pm). During your trip, soft drinks and a light lunch are provided and many offer an open bar on the return journey.

The whale sharks are usually easily located and once they are found, clients enter the water two at a time to swim and snorkle alongside them. This ensures that the animals are not spooked and also provides maximum opportunity for some great unobstructed underwater photography. Whale Sharks swim at a speed of just 3mph so it is not difficult to keep up with them. Each session lasts around 10-15 minutes per couple, and during the tour there will be 3 or 4 opportunities for a total swim time of up to an hour per person. All participants must wear lifejackets and no feeding or touching of the whale sharks is permitted. Non eco-friendly sunscreen is also prohibited.

Most whale shark tour operators, including the ones below, also include a second stop to snorkle at a nearby reef to enjoy the colorful and varied underwater flora and fauna that this area of the Caribbean is famous for.

Once the colonial holdings of the Portuguese crown, Brazil is the largest country in South America, and much of it is pristine jungle wilderness. The Amazon basin is the largest and most famous Brazilian jungle, but there is another jungle, the Pantanal, in the southwest of Brazil, which is just as beautiful and exotic, if not more so. Diverse birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians live in the wetlands and jungles of this region, one of the world’s best wildlife spotting areas.
There are two major cities in the Pantanal area, which is located in the Mato Grosso state near the border of Bolivia and Paraguay. Cuiabá is the capital of the state, and is the largest and most popular destination for travelers to the Pantanal, as there are many pousadas, or lodges, nearby. Another destination is Campo Grande, to the south. These Pantanal jungle lodges offer everything a traveler might need, including all meals, lodging, and guided excursions to see wildlife, go piranha fishing, ride horseback, take 4×4 safari tours, and canoe river rides.

The Pousada Aguape Lodge is 160km from Campo Grande in a lush wetland by the Aquidauana River. The lodge is open all year round, and its 13 rustic rooms have views of the Ibera Lagoon, are equipped with air-conditioning and ceiling fans, and come with private decks. All meals – all excellent cuisine, especially the lamb and homemade pasta – are served in the lodge dining hall. The lodge also has a swimming pool, beach volleyball court, and soccer field. From the lodge, visitors can go on horseback ride, lagoon boat rides, 4×4 safaris, nature treks, piranha fishing, and nighttime excursions to see caimans.

The Baia Grande Lodge is another excellent lodge located on a farm about 20km from Campo Grande. The lodge, or farm, is dedicated to promoting local culture and preserving the environment. Nearby is the Great Bay, where visitors can take boat tours to search for caimans, fish for piranhas, or take horseback rides through the marshes. The lodge offers a charming and relaxing environment, complete with hammocks, a swimming pool, and home-cooking. Each room is air-conditioned, and the living room has a TV and DVD player.
At Pousada do Rio Mutum Lodge, located near Cuiabá, visitors can spend just three days or five if they would like, relaxing in the comfortable lodge completely removed from the busyness of the city, or enjoying the exotic wildlife teeming in the jungle on numerous activities. On a boat ride along the Mutum River, giant otters, stingrays, and tropical fish are often spotted, and there are tons of birds at the conjunction of Bahia Sia Mariana and the Bahia de Chacorore. One of the most spectacular activities offered at this jungle is an early morning canoe ride, where visitors can witness the sunrise as the birds and wildlife wake to the new day.

Chances are, if you’re travelling to El Calafate in Southern Patagonia, you’re looking for some great trekking in Los Glacieres National Park. El Calafate has some of the best trekking options in Southern Patagonia, and that includes moderately easy day hikes as well as technically challenging ice treks. The Perito Moreno Glacier, about 40 miles outside of El Calafate, is a popular attraction, because you can get really close to a huge glacier that often cracks and sputters with falling ice. There’s also the Upsala Glacier, the world’s largest.
El Calafate is the little town on the banks of the Lake Argentina, and it is perfectly situated as a trailblazer’s resting spot. For those wanting to enjoy the charm and hospitality for which Southern Patagonia Argentineans are well-known, you’ll want to check out an El Calafate boutique hotel.

One option is the Esplendor Calafate Hotel. Every element of this charming boutique hotel is well-thought out. The white stone building splendidly reflects the snow covered mountains. The materials used to build the hotel were carefully selected, down to the scent-filled timbers and plaster made with local sands. The lobby and rooms have great views of the lake. The rooms are comfortable, with simple decorations and cozy beds. The restaurant has an authentic Argentinean menu with local ingredients, and there is also a bar.

The Hotel Terrazas del Calafate is another equally charming and quaint option for your El Calafate boutique hotel. Located in a quiet neighborhood in El Calafate, the boutique hotel is just 15 minutes within walking distance from downtown. The wide windows afford excellent views of the Lake Argentina. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, and decorated with earthy colors. The restaurant serves local dishes and regional wines.

Tips On Selling Your Timeshares

Most people agree that buying a timeshare is easier than reselling one. You get emails, phone calls and loads of mailed invitations to attend timeshare presentations. They even offer you gifts in return for attending their presentations. Why do they do this? Naturally, it’s to convince you to buy a timeshare. Buying a timeshare is easy, but have you ever asked yourself whether selling one would be just as easy? Sadly, the answer is “no.” Reselling a timeshare can be difficult, and that’s why many experts recommend they not be purchased as investments. Chances are good that you won’t make any money when you resell a timeshare.
Instead of being a financial investment, a timeshare represents an investment in your life and your dream vacations. However, many people who buy a timeshare for vacation purposes are forced by unforeseen circumstances to sell their timeshare unit. The following tips are intended for those individuals, along with other people who are considering selling timeshare properties because of family changes, a change of taste or a general dissatisfaction.

1. Check with the timeshare developer who sold you the timeshare. Sometimes the developers offer the original buyer an option to resell their timeshare back to the developer. If not find out if your timeshare is associated with a licensed broker handling timeshare resale.

2. Have realistic expectations for the sale. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but timeshare properties resell for less than their original price. That’s bad enough, but a timeshare can be difficult to sell if the unit is small, can only be used during the off season, or is located in an unpopular location. Reselling that type of timeshare can present quite a challenge. A timeshare property that is reasonably large, offers peak season usage and is located in a popular destination might be easy to sell. But once again, even if the timeshare sells, it might only fetch 30-50% of its original price. You need to be mentally prepared for that. Try thinking that your timeshare is like a car, which depreciates every year.

3. Always do your homework before you sell. Research current market prices for timeshare properties, and thoroughly study your documents so you know what you are selling. If you don’t already know, find out whether the timeshare you’re selling is a deeded timeshare or a right to use. The values of some right to use timeshares go down considerably when they are close to expiring. Knowing this information about your timeshare will help you resell your property with confidence.

4. List your timeshare with a real estate agency. There is no dearth of online and traditional brokers. But do inquire whether there is any upfront fee for listing the advertisement or commission on sale of property. You may not want to go with a broker who charges very large upfront fee or commission. You can also list your timeshare in classified ads offered by many timeshare developers. The latest trend that is catching up is to list your timeshare for auction on sites such as e-bay which lest you develop your own ad campaign with your own ideas.

5. Don’t be duped by a scammer who offers a quick resale of your timeshare. We discussed earlier how difficult reselling a timeshare can be, so don’t believe anybody’s promise to sell your timeshare quickly. No one can be certain that your timeshare will sell in a specified time.

6. Also do not commit to any offer on phone. Do make decisions in haste. Take your time to make a decision and to come to a conclusion whether to accept the offer or not. Also request the offer in writing and also obtain written contract.

Why Barcelona Is Great For Your Next Holiday

A family or couple seeking a vacation spot to spend their holidays should look no further than Barcelona, Spain. Traditional customs, mingled with new, and steeped in culture and religion, make this a charming place to spend any holiday. Skipping a hotel and seeking a Barcelona apartment rental will make the vacation and the holiday more memorable and more enjoyable. An apartment will offer the comfort and convenience of home, in a setting full of history and beauty. Whether you are planning Christmas, New Years, or Easter in Barcelona, your vacation promises to be full of the cultures and customs of the city.

Christmas
Christmas in Barcelona, Spain promises mild temperatures with a highly unlikely chance of snow. The holiday is as important in Spain as it is in the United States, and a visitor will enjoy taking in the sights and sounds of the holiday season. Christmas lights are abundant inside and outside of the city. It is worth the traveler’s time to stroll the city streets to take in the displays. A few displays that are famous and not to be missed include Plaza de Catalunya, the Cortes Ingles Department Store, and the Ronda de Sant Pere.

Another important part of the Christmas tradition is the Nativity Scene. Seen in front of private homes and public establishments, the Nativity is a Christmas staple. Interestingly, it is customary to insert modern people of current interest, such as Barak Obama. A traveler could make a collection out of pictures taken of the various Nativity Scenes on display.

Shops will be open until Christmas Eve, but will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Most restaurants will also be closed on Christmas Day, but will reopen the next day for Boxing Day. There are listings at tourist sites of churches where English is spoken so that English-speaking visitors may attend Christmas services.

One must-see Christmas stop in Barcelona is Fira de Santa Llucia. This is a huge market, with stalls for selling Christmas trees, toys, and gifts. It is a very festive place, especially in the evening when the Christmas lights are lit. Even if you are not looking to buy anything, it is absolutely worth the time to browse.

If your family is planning to be in Barcelona for Christmas, you will want to bring some of your Christmas traditions with you, or at least, try to adopt a couple that you find in Spain. However, there is nowhere to put a Christmas tree or to burn a Caga Tio (log with a happy face) in a hotel room. Opening presents while sitting cross-legged on a hotel bed is not horribly comfortable. A Barcelona apartment rental is the answer. With an apartment, there is room for a tree or presents or whatever else your traditions demand. Given that most restaurants are closed on Christmas Day, having a kitchen in which to cook a Christmas dinner is also convenient. A little comfort of home will make the holiday much more enjoyable for all.

Easter
Because of the frequent juxtaposition of Easter and spring breaks, this is a very popular time to travel. For this reason, plans and reservations should be made ahead so as to ensure that lodgings are available and at a competitive price.

As with Christmas, Barcelona is steeped in Easter traditions. However, one of these traditions includes getting away. The week leading up to Easter, the Holy Week, is called Semana Santa. As Easter draws near, many residents of Barcelona leave the city to seek family or to travel, themselves. This does not mean that there are no Easter activities in Barcelona. Actually, it does mean that visitors will experience a great deal of celebrating, in an environment that is a little less hectic than “everyday” Barcelona when the streets are more crowded.

There are a number of Easter Parades; one of them begins at “La Iglesia de Sant Agustí,” complete with about 300 people and a handful of hooded penitents, as is custom. “Iglesia de Sant Jaume” is another church with an impressive Easter procession. The largest of the processions begins at Hositalet de Llobregat. Last year, the procession attracted more than a million followers.

Santa Maria del Mar, a beautiful Gothic cathedral , is an excellent place to attend Easter mass.

While enjoying springtime in Barcelona, and learning about their culture and traditions, your family can maximize their comfort and enjoyment if you consider a Barcelona apartment rental over staying at an apartment. There is more room for an Easter egg hunt; in addition, a full kitchen means a home-cooked Easter dinner, or a bite after mass. One way or another, eating out becomes a choice again instead of a mandatory activity. An apartment will provide a source of comfort that a hotel cannot.

If you’re looking to travel to El Calafate, Argentina, here are insider’s tips at the recommended 4-star and 5-star hotels in and around town. El Calafate is one of Southern Patagonia’s best resting places for exploring the nearby Los Glacieres National Park, home to the world’s largest glacier, the Upsala Glacier.
The Hotel Posada Los Alamos is about as fancy and luxurious as you can get. This family-owned hotel is nestled in a five acre garden beside the shores of Lake Argentina. Its immediately accessible to the downtown shops and sites in El Calafate. Besides comfortable, spacious rooms, facilities include a gold course, a gym, swimming pool, and spa, a reading room, a nursery, a barber shop, laundry services, and a restaurant and bar. Plus the staff are top-notch.

Los Sauces Casa Patagonica is one of the finest small luxury hotels in the region. Set back from the bustle of the town – but still within a short walk’s distance – its nestled among woods and gardens. It’s exterior is reminiscent of a traditional Patagonia estancia, so much so that you almost forget the time and place, and expect a gaucho to come out and greet you. There are 38 suites of varying sizes, all decked out with comfy beds piled high with quilts and great views. 4 master suites include living rooms, king size beds, hydro bathtubs, and private terraces overlooking the gardens. There’s also a library, observatory, golf course, and spa. The restaurant serves Patagonia-inspired gourmet cuisine.

Often overlooked by many individuals staying in a Vienna hotel, the rail network in the city is considered extremely reliable and quick, providing not only transportation to every hotel Vienna has to offer, but also the outlying suburban areas and towns via the S-Bahn trains. In conjunction with the in-city rails there are also high-speed trains heading for Hungary and other destinations, so no matter which Vienna hotel you use during your stay, you can find a way out of the city and back to your home whenever you need it.

Perhaps the most important stretches of railway in the city, and one that every hotel Vienna has to offer for travellers will reference, are the Stammstrecke and the S45. The former runs every two to five minutes and the latter runs every five to ten minutes, giving travellers a way to get around the city without having to worry about waiting for a taxi or a tram.

Bear in mind that any trips taken outside of the borders of Vienna will require an additional ticket to be purchased, so if you plan on leaving your Vienna hotel for a day trip into the countryside pay attention to the names of the rail station. Vienna railway stations begin with the name Wien, while those outside of the city limits are considered part of Austria’s Eastern Transit Region, otherwise known as VOR. If multiple trips are planned, a Vorteilscard allows a discount on railway tickets outside of the city, but are really only practical for individuals travelling for extended durations in the outlying regions

The key to great kayaking is getting out there and enjoying what you are doing and experiencing. Practicing some basic skills always helps to do this. The foundational skill in sea kayaking is the forward stroke. It is great to have a reliable roll and be able to high brace, leaning all the way over in the water, but unless you want to be a trick kayaker, you need a good, efficient forward stroke. Every time you paddle, you need to be working on the forward stroke. If you consciously work on this basic part of kayaking, your skill and enjoyment will increase. Here’s how:

The Right Sea Kayak Paddle Size is Important
Paddle blades come in several sizes : which size to use depends on the paddling conditions. Narrower blades cut through the wind better, but they lose speed. Mid-size paddles are good for most paddling conditions. They catch a good amount of water for good power and can usually be adjusted, or feathered, to deal with wind. Wider blades catch a lot of water and can increase speed considerably. The down side of wider blades is that they tend to flutter, can be hard on joints, and can catch the wind quite strongly. The first step is to get the right paddle for your activity. If you paddle more and longer journeys, then a lighter paddle is important. A mid-range and narrow combination of paddles-mid-range for most paddling, narrow as a spare set and for windy conditions, is usually a good way to go. Go to paddlefests and events in your area and try out the products available. Make sure your sea kayak paddle is right for you.

Good, Upright Posture is Critical for Sea Kayaking

If you are slouching in the seat of your kayak, you are not getting maximum movement or power. Sit up straight, with a slightly forward lean to be efficient. This just becomes habit if you continue to work on being conscious of how you are sitting while paddling your sea kayak.

Use a Relaxed Grip When Holding the Sea Kayak Paddle

Holding a paddle with a death grip is tiring. Loosen your grip on your paddle. Hold it just tightly enough to prevent flutter and to maintain good movement. This helps you relax in your paddling motion, which also slows down fatigue, letting you paddle longer and more efficiently. Much of the key here is to just relax. Sometimes the conditions get rough and scary, but working on relaxing usually helps with stability and certainly helps with efficiency while sea kayaking.

Sea Kayaking With Torso Rotation Increases Stamina

Use the trunk of your body to paddle, not your arms. We have large muscle groups in our torsos. By using these large muscle groups predominately, we give ourselves more power and more stamina for paddling longer. If you shoulders are rotating, most likely your torso is as well. Try practicing with rotating shoulders. If you are having trouble keeping a good rhythm and flow, put your rudder of skeg down to take the work to maintain good tracking out of the equation. Teach yourself good forward stroke technique and paddle without rudder or skeg later. Don’t try to power your strokes as far back as you can. Stroke smoothly and rhythmically, and pull your paddle out of the water beside your hip.

More Paddle Strokes While Kayaking Means Faster Travel

Your speed comes from how many times your paddle is in the water. Increase your paddle rate without the power pull at the end. Taking your paddle out of the water at the hip helps increase your paddling rate and increases your stability.

These are very simple techniques that anyone can do. The key to getting a good forward paddling stoke is to continue to work on it on every trip, no matter how long the trip is. By following these simple suggestions, and trying to be conscious of how you are paddling, you will improve your sea kayaking skills, become a better paddler, and enjoy your trips even more.
